JAMIE AND THE MAGIC TORCH

This is one of my favourite kids programmes of all time. The intro sequence is one of the best I`ve ever seen, and sticks firmly in anyones memory......

It`s getting late, and it`s bed-time for Jamie....

Sleep well, Jamie

"Sleep well, Jamie", his mum calls, and closes the door on Jamie.

But Jamie is not asleep!

But Jamie is not asleep!

Wordsworth, Jamie`s faithful companion crawled from under Jamie`s bed with the magic torch, ready for another exciting adventure.

When Jamie shined the torch on his bedroom floor, a gateway to a strange new world appeared.

Jamie and Wordsworth go through the hole, and end up sliding down a helter skelter which takes them to a new world....

The new world is called Cuckoo Land - A very strange place to say the least!.

Here are the lyrics to the song which accompanied the great intro sequence:

Jamie! Jamie!
Jamie and the Magic Torch.
Down the helter skelter, faster and faster
towards Cuckoo Land.

Wordsworth! Wordsworth!
Following hard behind.
Ready for adventure, always there to lend a paw
...or hand!

Mr Boo and all the others too,
the strangest people you've ever seen.
And the torch with it's magical beam -
If I hadn't really been there
I'd think that I was dreaming!

Jamie! Jamie!
No two nights are the same.
And life is one long glorious game
with Jamie.
Jamie and the Magic Torch!

There were three series of Jamie and the Magic Torch, and 39 episodes in total. However, the episodes were very short lasting for about ten minutes only. The first appearance was in 1976 and the show continued through the 80`s .

Mr Boo Officer Gotcha

A couple of strange characters from Cuckoo land. Mr Boo, an old man who flew around in a submarine, and Officer Gotcha, a policeman who went around on a unicyle and was always eating his truncheon!

At the end of the show Jamie and Wordsworth magically made a backwards journey up the helter skelter back to his bedroom where he finally managed to get some sleep......

At the end, you could hear Jamie`s Mum say "Settle down now, Jamie. Come on Wordsworth, out of there..."

Where to next?
