Blinded by the lights.....

Here we can see 86238 European Community, now fitted with an 'Express Models' lighting system.

Just a few final checks, and possibly a little tidying up is all that needs to be done!

Saturday evening - 17th June 2006

Almost complete

Most things with this loco are finished too. Just a few little details need to be added, a little brush painting here and there, a few coats of varnish....... That`s your lot folks!

Saturday evening - 20th May 2006

Transfer complete

A general shot showing the addition of all transfers. Further detailing of this locomotive can now commence....

Sunday evening, 14th May 2006

Putting on a front!

In this view you can hopefully see some progress at last! You should be able to clearly see the holes to house the lights. Note also the 'squarer' appearance of the warning panel. Pantograph bases are being constructed, but the loco is still waiting for transfers and varnish before any other detailing is fitted.

Prime time.....

This rather undignified shot shows the holes which have been drilled to house the Express Models lighting kit. I have fitted some etchings over the headcode boxes, and have spot painted primer to seal any slight gaps. Don`t worry though, this will be rubbed down carefully prior to respraying.

Hacked off?

Cabs are being modified in order to house the Express models lighting clusters. It`s a bit of hard work cutting through the castings, but hopefully worth the effort when all is finished!

Thursday evening, 27th April 2006

Let`s put some light on the subject.....

The Express Models lighting pack has arrived safely, and I`ve had a good look at it. It seems very similar to packs I have installed in some of my Class 90`s, along with a 59 and a 60. The only difference is that this is a 'lightstore' version which I have yet to try. Should be easy enough to install......

Waiting game.....

A busy week, and a weekend away has made progress painfully slow recently. I am waiting for the Express Models lighting kit before I make any more progress with this loco. I have added a little more roof detail though in the meantime.....

Underframe completed....

Here we can see the completed underframe, albeit waiting to be reunited with wheelsets and motor.

In this view we can see some of the work which has been undertaken to the compressor housing.

Little and often....

It`s a case of a little and often at the moment. Here you can see the area where one of the compressors have been removed. This involves drilling out 4 sections, careful filing, and construction of 'background' detail. This section is currently in undercoat.

It`s still me......

Totally dismantled and currently looking a right mess! Couplings at no.1 end have been removed, and isolation swithch has been removed and filled. The area below pantograph base has also been built up. Unwanted printed detail is soon to be removed, and removal of the left hand compressor in the underframe is next in the pipeline.....

Now you see me......

A final look at 86235 before transformation....
